Singapore declined to allow casinos for years and in opening these two casinos the government is still seeking to contain any damaging results. As part of that they discourage frequent visits to the gambling areas by requiring Singaporeans to pay a $100 daily entry levy. They can purchase an annual pass for $2,000. About a third of visitors to the Marina Bay Sands casino are Singaporeans and permanent residents.
